A'Lana Martinez hits for Cycle in 11-2 Win Over St. Pete
State College of Florida rode a historic performance from A'Lana Martinez to an 11-2 victory over St. Petersburg College on Tuesday at Madeira Beach.
Martinez hit for the cycle, powering the offense with a single in the first inning, a solo home run to center in the third, a double in the fourth, and a triple in the fifth. The feat highlighted a dominant day at the plate for SCF, which finished with 14 hits as a team.
SCF opened the scoring in the second inning when an error brought home the game's first run. The offense broke things open in the third, as Martinez launched her solo shot and Kaylin Smith followed with a home run of her own to push the lead to 3-0.
SCF extended its advantage to 7-0 in the fourth inning. Rebekah Lewis delivered the big blow with a three-run homer to center field, and Bree Urban added an RBI single to cap the four-run frame.
In the circle, Mia Macaione set the tone, allowing four hits and two runs over 4.1 innings while striking out two and walking three. Dava Hoffer earned the win in relief, tossing two-thirds of an inning without allowing a hit or run.
Smith, Jamie Sepsick, and Kaitlyn Shea each collected multiple hits to support Martinez's milestone day. SCF also turned a double play defensively.
