SCF Softball earned a double-header sweep to earn their first two wins on the season.
In game 1, SCF took an early 2-0 lead but the lead quickly evaporated as the visiting Hawks tied the game with a two-run home run in the 2nd. After a scoreless bottom of the 2nd, the Hawks scratched across three runs to take the lead for the first time 5-2. During the inning, Allison Cole would come in to relieve starter Abigail Hicks. Cole pitched her way out of a jam before settling down. From then on, it was all Manatees. SCF would take the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a grand slam by 3rd baseman Jamie Sepsick. The home run was the first of Sepsick's college career. Rebekah Lewis, Bri Thies, and Kaylin Smith all contributed with two hits each. Allison Cole earned her first collegiate victory. She finished the remainder of the game after taking over in the third inning, going 4.2, allowing 1 hit, and striking out 4.
In game 2, the Manatees never trailed. After taking an early 2-0 lead, the SCF lead shrank to 5-4 in the 3rd inning before the offense exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the 4th. The offensive outburst was a collective effort. The Manatees pounded 15 hits and drew 7 walks. 9 different hitters had base hits. A'Lana Martinez was the most productive Manatee, finishing the game with a sterling 4 hits in 4 at bats, scoring 3 runs, and driving in 2. Dava Hoffer earned her first career win in the circle for SCF. Hoffer pitched the entire game. Her final stat line for the evening was 5 innings pitched, 7 hits allowed, 4 earned runs allowed, and striking out 4.
The Manatees travel to Eastern Florida for two games against the Titans at 1:00 and 3:00 pm. Fans can watch the broadcast on the Eastern Florida YouTube page at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/@EFSCTitans
