Martinez Takes Home Pitcher of the Week
Bradenton, Fla - Freshman A'Lana Martinez proved herself profoundly for the SCF softball team as she was named the NJCAA DII Region 8 Pitcher of the Week.
"I couldn't be more excited for A'Lana," said head coach Brett Sauerwein. "She's a kid that comes in and works hard every day and she definitely deserves the recognition. For someone, who started pitching after the break, it's an impressive feat."
Martinez, an infielder/pitcher and native of Cooper City, pitched 7.2 scoreless innings on the mound against Florida State College at Jacksonville, which include her first collegiate shutout in game one of the doubleheader. Additionally, she went 5-for-12 with a triple, five runs scored and three RBI. Currently, she is 3-3 with a 5.65 ERA and 12 strikeouts while batting .370 with 17 hits, nine RBI and six stolen bases.
Martinez looks to continue her work for the next series as she and the Manatees face #1 St. John's River State March 28 and 29.
