Beach Volleyball Wins Opening Match on New Home Courts

SCF Beach Volleyball breaks in their new courts in style as they defeat New College of Florida by a score of 3-2.

The Manatees have four new pair combinations this season as returners Bianca Guerrero and Aryanna Spainhower return as the two pair. SCF received wins from the one pair, two pair, and five pair, including the aforementioned Spainhower and Guerrero who won in three sets.

Newcomers Ava Mohler and Liliana Palacios have transitioned well from the indoor courts to the sand. After competing in numerous beach volleyball tournaments during the past several months, both players used their familiarity with each other to their advantage pulling out a decisive third set victory at the one's pair for the Manatees.

Nora Leonard made her season debut alongside freshman Ella Schmidtova. Schmidtova and Leonard worked well together with Schmidtova providing outstanding defense to help secure the win at the 5th pair, which ultimately helped secure the match.

Juste Vilimaite, making her collegiate debut, alongside returner Isabela Cardenas Estrella fell in a close match at the 4th pair. Vilimaite and Cardenas had a slight lead in the third set but could not get the last point to fall befor ultimately falling in extras 14-16.

Today's victory marks the first win for new Head Beach Volleyball Coach Turhan Douglas, who made his debut as Head Coach for the Manatees. In addition to this win being his first at the school, the win was Coach Douglas' first win as a collegiate beach volleyball head coach.

Beach Volleyball will open conference play next weekend as they travel to Palatka, FL, to take on Florida State College at Jacksonville and St. John's River State College on February 13 at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
