Softball (6-2) sweeps twinbill at Santa Fe College, 3-2 and 2-1
GAINESVILLE, Fla.- SCF Softball swept the Santa Fe College Saints 3-2 and 2-1. Paige Mathews earned both wins for the Manatees and sophomore slugger Ashley Burney drove in the winning runs in both games of the double header.
GAINESVILLE, Fla.- SCF Softball swept the FCSAA #8 ranked Santa Fe College Saints 3-2 and 2-1. Paige Mathews earned both wins for the Manatees and sophomore slugger Ashley Burney drove in the winning runs in both games of the double header.
Ashley Burney was 5-for-7 with a 3-run home run in the first inning of game one and an extra inning RBI single in the top of the 8th. Burney had a home run, double and three singles with four RBIs for the Manatees. Paige Mathews went the distance in game one giving up only four hits, two earned runs and striking out eight. Freshman hurler, Megan Schwietert, gave up only 3 hits in five innings of game two. Mathews returned to the mound to shut down the Saints in the 5th through the 8th for the win.
The Manatees entered an international tie breaker for the 8th inning. Dani Darby led off the inning on second base for SCF. After a failed bunt attempt and strikeout, Burney (currently hitting .500) drove in a two out game winning RBI single to right field scoring Darby. Mathews shut down the Saints in the bottom of the 8th inning with a strike out and two infield flyouts to end the game.
This was SCF's sixth straight win making the Manatees (6-2) for the season. SCF travels to Palm Beach State College on Tuesday.
