SCF sweeps FCSAA player and pitcher of the week honors, Orlando Rivera and Devin Raftery
Each week the FCSAA names one player of the week and one pitcher of the week for the state of Florida. This week, SCF players earned both honors. Orlando Rivera was named player of the week and Devin Raftery is the pitcher of the week. Orlando Rivera, a freshman from Orlando, Fla., batted .500 (6-for-12) with three runs scored, one double, one triple and three RBIs in three games. Rivera hit safely in all three games, which included bookend multi-hit outings. After going 2-for-5 with two runs scored against the University of Tampa JV on March 7, Rivera played a key role in back-to-back victories against No. 1 Polk State. He was 1-for-3 in the March 9 series opener then went 3-for-4 in game two the next day, including a game-tying two-run double. He later scored the game-winning run in SCF’s 3-2 victory. Devin Raftery, a freshman from Deltona, Fla., was 1-0 with two saves and a 0.00 ERA in three appearances last week. Raftery closed out each of the Manatees’ three games last week, including March 9 vs. top-ranked Polk State when he earned the win with 1.1 perfect innings (three strikeouts) in relief. The next day, he pitched a perfect ninth against Polk State to notch the save. He also picked up a save against the University of Tampa JV on March 7. For the week, Raftery pitched 3.1 perfect innings in relief and struck out six total batters. Please visit www.thefcsaa.com/baseball for further info
