SB beats Palm Beach twice, Brockett 3 run HR, Mathews 13 K shut out
Bradenton Herald: Juco softball: SCF finishes off perfect weekend MANATEE -- Freshman pitcher Paige Mathews turned two victories, including a one-hit shutout in the opener, as the State College of Florida softball team swept Palm Beach State College 2-0 and 6-3 in a doubleheader. Mathews struck out 13 and walked none in the first game. She entered in relief in the second game and fired four more scoreless innings to get the win. After throwing a shutout Saturday during a sweep of Santa Fe College, Mathews finished the weekend with 18 scoreless innings. Kat Gavern went 2-for-3, and Chelsea Wildey had an RBI double for the Manatees (8-2) in the opener. In the second game, Manatee High product Shannon Brockett blasted a three-run homer in the first inning to get SCF off to a good start. Wildey went 2-for-3 as did Gianni Artidiello.
