Kat Gavern signs with Coastal Georgia College
BRADENTON,Fla.- State College of Florida Softball's starting left fielder, Kat Gavern, has accepted a scholarship to Coastal Georgia College. Gavern (Orlando, FL) spent two years at SCF where she excelled in several different roles. In her sophomore year, she added 13 RBI, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 4 stolen bases, and scored 19 times to the offensive attack. Gavern was a defensive star as well making 46 plays and gunning out 5 runners from left field earning her Suncoast Conference Second Team honors. Kat Gavern was a unsung hero for the Manatees in both 2011 and 2012 seasons. Her efforts helped SCF become 2012 Suncoast Conference Champions and brought home the Region 8b Championship. She was part of the second softball team in school history to have a NJCAA National Tournament appearance. She was a catalyst at the NJCAA National Tournament for the #5 seed Manatees. She hit safely in all 4 games and had go ahead RBIs in 3 of the 4 contests. In game one, she had an RBI single and scored a run for the Manatees. Against Pima College, she was 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the 4th to take help SCF take the lead. She hit again in game three versus Gordon College and scored again herself. In the final game of the season, Gavern hit an RBI double to take the lead against Wallace State in the second inning. Out of the 13 runs SCF scored at Nationals, Gavern knocked in 3 and scored twice.
