SCF Softball (50-13) finished 7th at the NJCAA National Tournament
ST. GEORGE, UTAH- The SCF Softball team finished 7th out of 16 teams at the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. The Manatees had a strong showing with two wins and two extra inning, one run losses. SCF was seeded 5th at the tournament.

Tournament action opened Thursday morning with a 3-0 win over Temple College (Temple, TX). The Manatees spread seven hits over 6 innings of offense. Angie Dascoli hit a solo home run in the top of the 4th. Kat Gavern and Gianni Artidiello each added an RBI. Paige Mathews threw a perfect 7 innings with 9 strikeouts.
Thursday evening, SCF took on Pima College (AZ) resulting in their first tournament loss. Chelsea Oglevie went 7 2/3 innings with 7 strikeouts and only giving up 7 hits. The Manatees held on to a 2-1 lead until the bottom of the 7th. Pima sparked a 2-out rally in the bottom of the 7th to tie it up and head in to extra innings. A one out triple and base hit resulted in the final blow from Pima who won 3-2. SCF's offensive attack was led by multiple hit performances from Kayla Bjorge and Kat Gavern.
Friday morning began with a 5-2 victory over Gordon College (GA). Paige Mathews fanned 11 batters giving up 6 hits and no walks. The hitting attack was led by Angie Dascoli (2-for-4) who had a double, triple, and 2 RBIS. Kayla Bjorge (Eltopia, WA) was 3-for-4. Dani Wayt added an RBI double to seal the win.
The elimination game was Friday afternoon against Wallace State. SCF fell 4-3 in an 8-inning battle. Leading hitters for SCF were Chelsea Wildey (3-for-3, 2B) and Dani Wayt (3-for-4). Wayt had 2 doubles, 2 RBIS, and a top of 7th, two out solo home run to keep the Manatees' season alive. Wallace then answered with a bottom of the 8th rally with 2 base hits, a walk, and a SAC fly for Wallace. Sophomore hurler Chelsea Oglevie started for the Manatees and struck out one. Paige Mathews entered in the 2nd giving up 1 earned run, five strikeouts, and five hits.
Freshman pitcher, Paige Mathews earned NJCAA National Championship All-Tournament team honors. The Manatees ended their 2012 season 50-13. They were Suncoast Conference Champions, Gulf District Champions (Region 8b), and made the 2nd National tournament appearance in school history.
