Softball sweeps SFCC 4-1and 5-0, Paige Mathews has 2nd no-hitter of the season

AVON PARK, Fla- SCF Softball swept South Florida Community College 4-1 and 5-0. Freshman pitcher, Paige Mathews, had her second no-hitter of the 2012 season. Chelsea Oglevie locked in win number 11 on the mound in game one and clinched a berth to the FCSAA/Region 8 State Tournament.

The offense rolled behind the bat of FCSAA Player of the Week, Chelsea Wildey. Wildey was 3-for-6 with three doubles and three RBIs for the Manatees. Sophomore outfielder, Kat Gavern, was also instrumental with two hits, a sac bunt, walk, RBI, and scored twice for the Manatees. Gavern reached base safely five times in the conference double header. Kayla Bjorge (Eltopia, Wa.) also added three RBIs for the attack.

In the opener, Chelsea Oglevie (11-3) shut the Panthers down allowing only one run on three hits and striking out four. In game two, Paige Mathews had a perfect game going in to the sixth inning where she went to a full count and surrendered a one out walk. She pitched a complete game no-hitter allowing only one base runner and striking out 13 in 7 innings.

SCF Softball has won 11 of the last 13 games, is currently #3 in FCSAA, #10 in Nation, and #1 in the Suncoast Conference. The Manatees are (41-9) overall and (10-2) in conference play.
