SCF Softball Announces Committments for 2012 Class
SCF Softball announces 12 verbal commitments for the 2012 graduating class. The incoming class includes Laura Gavern, Katherine (Kat) Penn, Francesca (Frankie) Gazarato, Reagan Oakes, Crystal Cyr, and Megan Schwietert and others.
BRADENTON, FL- October, 17, 2011- SCF Softball announces twelve verbal commitments for the 2012 graduating class. The incoming class includes Laura Gavern, Katherine (Kat) Penn, Francesca (Frankie) Gazarato, Reagan Oakes, Crystal Cyr, Courtney Covert, Dani-Lynn Darby, Tori Snodgrass, Allison Towery, Amber Ozment, Jaice Metherall and Megan Schwietert.
Laura Gavern was the first commitment for the 2012 class. Gavern, a pitcher and a short stop, is from Boone High School. She comes to SCF in the footsteps of her sister ,and current Manatee, Kat Gavern. Frankie Gazarato (Creekside HS) and Reagan Oakes (Menendez HS) round out the right side of the infield and bring offensive threats to the lineup. Crystal Cyr (North Marion HS) is a strong, power hitting, speedy shortstop. Megan Schweitert (Trinity Catholic) brings an array of different pitches to the battery for SCF's 2012-2013 season. She helped lead Trinity Catholic to a district championship and through the 3A Regionals.
Adding to the pitching rotation and infield are Courtney Covert (Lake Brantley HS), Allison Towery (West Orange HS), and Dani-Lynn Darby (Palm Harbor Univ). Jaice Metherall (Ocoee HS) brings experience behind the plate and a strong swing.
To round out the class behind home plate are two local standouts from Manatee and Sarasota County. Amber Ozment is a Senior at Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton, FL along with Tori Snodgrass from Sarasota High.
"We are very happy to have commitments from some of the top players in the state of Florida," said head coach Meredith Headings. "This class of incoming players bring fire and talent, which helps compliment the returning class for next year, and we aren't done yet. We were so blessed to have such a strong pool of local talent. There are three quality players from Sarasota that we are excited about and are currently trying to locate funds to add them as well. This 2012 class is stacked." SCF softball is still currently recruiting and finalizing the class of 2012.
The SCF Softball team will sign most of the incoming class at the "Past, Present, Future" alumni day at 10:00a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2011. The event includes a seven-inning game with alumni versus the current team, followed by the signing of future softball players.
