  • State College of Florida's Ashley Burney leads offense into Junior College World Series
    May 16, 2012
BRADENTON -- Ashley Burney said she hated softball when she first took the sport up. Makes sense, since she was coming from the sport of baseball where she more than held her own until she was about 14 years old. But Burney's ability on a softball field is what made her a standout in the small town of Palatka. After a slow start to the season, Burney has become an integral offensive weapon for the State College of Florida Manatees. Her state tournament performance alone aided a deep SCF pitching staff and enabled the Manatees to punch their first national tournament appearance since 2005, just the second in program history. • State College of Florida's Angie Dascoli aids deep pitching staff in successful 2012
    May 17, 2012
BRADENTON -- Trust is of the utmost importance when dealing with a softball pitcher and catcher's relationship. It also is necessary to have that trust between a head coach and a catcher, too. At State College of Florida, the Manatees possess a catcher that calls all the pitches that the deep rotation possesses with supreme command. It's worked so well that SCF is enjoying its first trip to the JUCO World Series since 2005, when the event was held in Clermont. Read more here:

Headings played at SCF, then called Manatee Community College in 2000 and 2001. She never had a chance to go to the national tournament. Until now. Read more here:
