Isaiah Williams is Suncoast Conference Player of the Year, SCF Basketball lands 6 on Suncoast All-Conference teams

TAMPA, Fla.- SCF Men's Basketball landed six players on the Suncoast All-Conference teams. Isaiah Williams was named the 2013 Suncoast Conference Player of the Year. Three Manatees were named to the first team all-conference and three earned second team honors. First Team honorees were Michael Sanchez, Savad Garner, and Isaiah Williams.

Michael Sanchez (Kissimmee, FL) is a freshman point guard whose strengths of passing, scoring and defense make him a triple threat for opponents. With 7.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game, Sanchez ranks number one in Region 8 in both categories. Nationally, he is 4th in the nation in steals and 9th in assists. He averages 14.8 points per game and has started in all 30 games.

Savad Garner, sophomore from Simpsonville, SC, landed on the first team after putting up 17 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He shot a whopping 62.1% from the floor which is 4th in Region 8. Standing at 6'0", Garner is 6th in Region 8 in rebounds per game and is the only player under 6'7" in the top 20.

Isaiah Williams was not only selected to the first team but he was also named 2013 Suncoast Conference Player of the Year. Williams (Newark, NJ) led the Manatees in several offensive and defensive categories. He is a 6'7" guard forward who is 6th in the state in points per game (17), 5th in the state in rebounds per game (8.3) , 5th in the state in assists per game (4.3), 5th in the state in blocks per game (2.0), 5th in the state in steals per game (2.7), 4th in the state in assist to turnover ratio (2.4), number 1 in the state in three-pointers made per game (2.8) and 3rd in the state in free throw percentage with 83.3%.

Second team honors go to Denzel Myers, Obinna Oleka and Brian Cobb. Myers is a two-time All-Conference selection in the Suncoast. This season he averaged 10.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.8 steals while shooting 49.4% from the floor per game. Myers is also 6th in the state in assist to turnover ratio (3.2) and 18th in the state in steals per game (1.8). Obinna Oleka is a freshman from Washington, D.C. who in his first season posted a career high 32 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists against Hillsborough Community College. Within Region 8, Oleka is 11th in both field goal percentage (55) and offensive rebounds per game (2.8). Brian Cobb is a local product from Lakewood Ranch High School. Cobb averaged 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season. He is currently 12th in Region 8 in offensive rebounds.

The Manatees led several statistical categories throughout the 2012-2013 season and finished 2nd in the Suncoast Conference. They play Monday, February 25th at 7PM for the Suncoast Conference Tournament Championship and a berth the the FCSAA/Region 8 State Tournament.
