Big turn out at Hal Chasey Gym for inaugural Suncoast Exposure Basketball Camp
BRADENTON,FL- A crowd formed at Hal Chasey Gymnasium for the inaugural Suncoast Exposure Basketball Camp, Saturday June 30th. Over 40 high school and college student-athletes gathered at SCF to gain exposure and potential scholarships. The showcase was held in front of many college and university level coaches including SCF's very own Head Basketball coach Brock Erickson. Also in attendance was the biggest recruiting website evaluator for the state of Florida. Eric Wallace from Floridahoops.com assisted in the evaluations of over 45 student athletes. Players from New York, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Georgia and as far as Senegal, Africa came to Bradenton,FL to compete against other aspiring college athletes. Future Suncoast Exposure Basketball camps will be held in fall, spring, and summer. Please check the SCF Men's Basketball website for details.

BRADENTON,Fla- SCF Basketball adds impact transfer, Isaiah Williams, to the 2012-13 squad. Head Coach Brock Erickson landed the 6'6" Williams out of Newark, NJ.

SCF Basketball coach Brock Erickson signs Terry Turner (Scranton,PA)
BRADENTON,Fla.- SCF Men’s basketball coach, Brock Erickson, has announced the signing of Terry Turner. Turner is a 6’7 wing forward who verbally committed to Rider University (NJ), a division one school in the MAAC conference. He capped of a stellar career averaging 18 points and 6 rebounds in his senior season. He finished as Scranton High School’s all time leading scorer and rebounder with 1,586 points and 840 rebounds. Turner was a member of the Spanish Club and the Peer Mediation Group. Terry comes from a strong basketball bloodline. Both his mother and father played college basketball. His mother, Felicia, is in the Massachusetts Basketball Hall of Fame, was named the National Junior College player of the year at Lackawanna College, and finished her career at Bradley University. Coach Erickson commented on the addition of Turner, “I am elated to welcome Terry as a new member of the SCF family. Terry is a versatile player capable of playing multiple positions. He is a rangy 6-7 athlete who will be a difficult match up for opponents because of his length and ability to handle the basketball. Terry will make an immediate impact here at the college both on and off the floor. He is a great player and an even better person.”

SCF Names Brock Erickson to Head Basketball Post
Bradenton, Fla., April 26, 2012) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has named Brock Erickson as the SCF men’s basketball head coach. He assumes his position immediately. Erickson’s coaching experience spans 11 years as an assistant coach that includes seven years in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I. "I am thrilled to be a part of the State College of Florida family, and I thank SCF President Dr. Lars A. Hafner and Matt Ennis for giving me the opportunity to serve as the SCF men’s basketball head coach. We are committed to being the hardest playing team in the country, and we want to establish a culture of doing things the right way on and off the court," Erickson said.

Two SCF basketball players earn First Team All-Conference honors, Odi Onyekachukwu and Denzel Myers
The State College of Florida basketball team landed two players on the Suncoast First Team All-Conference list. Odi Onyekachukwu and Denzel Myers earned first team spots. Elias Gutierrez and Giannis Stavriandis were honored with second team selections. The freshman from South Carolina, Denzel Myers, led the Manatees in scoring and assists. He averaged 12.4 points and 1.9 assists per game. Sophomore, Odi Onyekachukwu, averaged 10.9 points per game and led the team with a 55.4 shooting percentage.

SCF shoots lights out from long range to advance in tourney play (Bradenton Herald)
by Alan Dell- Bradenton Herald TAMPA State College of Florida men’s basketball coach Joe Whelton told his players a win at the right time can cure a season full of ills. The Manatees took their coach’s words to heart and rolled to an 81-56 victory over host Hillsborough Community College on Saturday in the Suncoast Conference tournament opener. The victory sends SCF (7-18) to Polk State College on Monday with the winner qualifying for the state tournament that begins March 7 at Chipola College, The Manatees were on fire from long range and dominated the glass, outrebounding Hillsborough 41-22 while holding a 21-7 advantage on the offensive boards. Palmetto High product Reggie Baity was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, and Ryan Steed canned 5 of 8 3-point attempts as they blistered the nets from long range. Baity finished with 17 points, and Steed had 15.

SCF's basketball season ends in disappointing loss to Polk State College
WINTER HAVEN The State College of Florida men’s basketball team was hoping to erase a season full of woe and disappointment. Instead a lot of the problems the Manatees encountered throughout the year surfaced as they dropped a 72-56 decision to host Polk State College Monday night in the Suncoast Conference Tournament championship game. The victory sends the Eagles (18-13) to the Florida Junior College State Tournament next week in Marianna. It ends the season for the Manatees (7-19), who were hoping to become the conference Cinderella team and earn a trip under first-year coach Joe Whelton.

Men's basketball gets shot at redemption
BRADENTON -- When Joe Whelton took over the State College of Florida men’s basketball program prior to the season, he was told the experience would be unlike any other. The warnings might have seemed a little unusual to the casual fan, considering Whelton had coached professional basketball overseas for nearly three decades. Unfortunately, they proved true. But Whelton says he has learned enough to change the culture of the program. The SCF team that plays its Suncoast Conference Tournament opener today on the road against Hillsborough Community College hardly resembles the squad Whelton envisioned before the season began.

SCF beats HCC 81-56 in post-season play
TAMPA- SCF Basketball beat HCC in the first round of playoffs 81-56. Odi Onyekachukwu had 18 points, Reggie Baity 17, and Ryan Steed added 15. This gave SCF the chance to compete in the Suncoast Conference Tournament Final. The Manatees will play PSC in Winter Haven Monday at 7pm. One win against Polk State College will give the Manatees a ticket to the FSCAA State Tournament.

SCF rise up and beat Polk, 63-51
MANATEE -- Decimated by off-the-court issues and injuries, the State College of Florida men’s basketball team has endured a season to forget. But in their home regular season finale, the Manatees gave themselves something to remember when they sprung a 63-51 victory on Polk State College. The triumph avenged two losses to the Vikings (17-12 and 5-3 Suncoast Conference) and gave the Manatees (2-6, 6-17) hope as they prepare for the postseason. SCF plays Hillsborough on Feb. 25 in the conference tournament opener, and the winner will be at Polk for the right to qualify for the state tournament. The Manatees are at Hillsborough on Wednesday; the winner secures home court for their first-round tournament game.

Denzel Myers hit the game-winning shot for the State College of Florida basketball team to give the Manatees a 71-70 double-overtime victory over Hillsborough CC in Tampa Wednesday night.

SCF Basketball drops first conference match up to Polk State, 66-58
The State College of Florida held Polk State College off for awhile, but could not finish down the stretch. The Manatees scored 25 points over the final 20 minutes in a 66-58 loss to the Eagles in the Suncoast Conference opener for both schools Wednesday night.

A 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left cost the State College of Florida a victory Saturday night. Aaron Harrison hit the trey to give Florida State College at Jacksonville a 58-57 victory at Hal Chasey Gymnasium.

Manatees Lose Late Against Palm Beach State College
The Manatees hosted Palm Beach State College (8-0), ranked No. 5 in the nation, and gave the Panthers all they could handle. Palm Beach escaped with an 81-79 win on a tip-in basket with one second left in regulation.

SCF drops to #4 ranked Santa Fe, 72-58
GAINESVILLE,FL- The SCF Basketball team traveled to face the Santa Fe College Saints in a non-conference contest. The Manatees lost 72-58 after leading at the half 29-25. SCF continued to fight off SFC through the two-minute warning. SCF was only down 63-58 but allowed 9 unanswered points to end the game.

SCF Basketball Starts Season with Victory
SCF overcame at 15-point halftime deficit to defeat the College of Central Florida in the home opener at Hal Chasey Gymnasium Wednesday night. The Manatees opened the season with an 82-78 win. Anthony Prescott led the Manatees with 22 points.

The Manatees will host the 2011 SCF Basketball Classic, presented by Martz Group. The three day tournament will take place at Hal Chasey Gymnasium, on the SCF Bradenton Campus. The Classis will showcase eight talented junior college and prepatory school basketball teams from across the nation.
